Test Here!

LHHS is now an SAT and ACT test site! When registering for a test in the spring, choose test site # 10-757 for SAT and #241500 for ACT and take the exam right here on campus!

SAT vs. ACT

  • SAT emphasizes vocabulary (good for students interested in English or Business-related majors)
  • ACT has a science section (good for students interested in science-based majors)
  • SAT broken up into more sections
  • ACT tests wider variety of math skills
  • SAT test separates sections for scores and admissions officers look at each section
  • ACT is a "big picture" exam (composite score)
  • ACT writing test is optional (but many schools require an essay)

The New SAT

Students can now practice for the revised SAT college admission exam with a new, free program offered by Khan Academy. The site known for video tutorials on a variety of academic subjects teamed up with the College Board, maker of the SAT, to create the new online program.

The revised SAT will be administered for the first time in March. It aims to do away with obscure vocabulary and focus on relevant words and on answering questions from “authentic texts.”

It also makes the writing section of the SAT optional and refocuses the math section more on algebra.

The new program, which can be found at https://www.khanacademy.org/sat, includes practice questions, a full three-hour practice exam and diagnostic quizzes meant to show students where they might need work. There are also “how-to” videos that show how to tackle various questions and tips for how to study for the test that plays a key role in college admissions.
